XAVIER DOTRAS TRIO

jazz  //

The Xavier Dotras Trio is a jazz group founded in Barcelona in 2004 in Barcelona by the multi-talented pianist Xavier Dotras with César Martínez on drums and Toni Pujol on double bass. The group plays a highly personal musical style, with a wide range of influences from the first, ranging from classical to bossa nova, Catalan traditional and Mediterranean music. The work of such pianists as Bill Evans, Michel Petrucciani, Enrico Pieranunzi and Brad Mehldau has also left its mark on the group. The Xavier Dotras Trio has made three albums, working with such outstanding guest artists as Gorka Benítez and Carme Canela: Retrospectives (PAE, 2004); Nit (Picap, 2006); and Vincent (Picap, 2009). The trio have played at concert halls and festivals all over Spain and have also performed widely on international stages, including the Jazz Club Soho in London and the Bath Music Festival. The band’s latest album, Preludes, pays homage to the creative freedom exercised by classical composers.
