FIAMS - Festival international des arts de la marionnette à Saguenay features David Espinosa and La Puntual

Performing.  Saguenay, Quebec, 28/07/2019

This internationally acclaimed festival features venue and outdoor performances showcasing a blend of high-caliber theatre and puppetry art. This season FIAMS will present two Catalan companies, David Espinosa and La Puntual, with the support from Institut Ramon Llull.

David Espinosa’s work is questioning the idea of performing through a research about theatrical limits, and manipulating the elements of the “stage equation”. Keeping a critical spirit, full of irony, about society and the art world, he tries in every creation to develop a formal game that surprises the audience and make him participant in the viewing of the piece, exposing crudely mechanisms and approaches of the work, away from tags, always in the middle of visual art, dance and theatre.

In recent works where he has replaced the real body with the object (in most cases toys and decorative figures depicting bodies of people, animals or fantastic creatures) there is a great interest in the idea of play as an activity to connect humans to what is transcendental in a simple way, even handing over to the public the management of the action. He tries to deepen more in this concept and to further explore the possibilities of objects as a performative element in A universal story (2018), Much ado about nothing (2014), and My great work (an ambitious project) (2012).

La Puntual is a puppet theatre, the only one in Barcelona dedicated exclusively to puppetry. Puppets of all kinds that take to the stage every weekend and perform stories and tales for family audiences.

La Puntual is also a travelling puppet company, a regular visitor to festivals, theatres and events, indoor and outdoor, locally and internationally. Some memorable performances have been given in venues such as the Royal National Theatre of London, several World festivals at Charleville-Mezieres in France, the Ishara Festival of New Delhi, La Planeta at Girona, Tolosa's Titirijai festival, Italy's Arrivano dal Mare, Sevilla and a very long etcetera going back to almost 40 years.
