Harvard students, a study abroad trip to Barcelona

Students enrolled in the Catalan studies program at Harvard University will participate in a seven-day trip to Barcelona, gaining direct contact with the language and culture they have been learning in the classroom. 




During a week (March 18th- 23th) students will participated in the following activities:

-a cultural tour in the Gothic and “Eixample” neighborhoods of Barcelona, followed by a visit of the historical building of the University of Barcelona

-a trip to the city of Sitges, where they will discover the architectural legacy of the “indianos” and the Modernist art of the “Cau Ferrat” museum

-a visit of the National Museum of Art of Catalonia and a guided tour of the “307 shelter”, built during the Spanish civil war

-a tour in the industrial neighborhood of Poblenou

-an unformal meeting with students of the University Pompeu Fabra, and a guided tour of the Palau del Baró de Quadras, site of the Institut Ramon Llull

-a visit of the Roman city of Tarragona

They will also discover a calçotada, a popular food experience which consists on a barbecue with calçots (local varieties of sweet onions), and they will observe a castells (human towers built traditionally at festivals) rehearsal.

This trip, organized by the lecturer in Catalan Studies at Harvard, Maria Dasca Batalla, is funded by a private donor, the Office of Career Services, and the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at Harvard University. It is also supported by Institut Ramon Llull.
