Barcelona, guest city at the MUTEK Festival in Montreal

Music.  Montreal, 23/08/2017

To mark the 375th anniversary of the city of Montreal, the MUTEK Festival, a benchmark of digital creativity and live electronic music, is organising INTER CONNECT MTL 2017, four one-off events that go beyond the festival itself and celebrate four guest cities. The first will be Barcelona, and during August a variety of activities will be taking place to strengthen professional bonds between the Catalan capital and the Canadian city.

All the events at INTER CONNECT MTL 2017, which are held at different times of the year, will have their own theme and will be dedicated to a particular city (Barcelona, London, Berlin and Mexico DF). The festival dedicated to Barcelona, which takes place in August, will explore the cultural connections between Montreal and the Catalan capital. MUTEK has planned a whole range of exhibitions and activities for professional interaction with the aim of creating professional bonds between the two cities and positioning Barcelona within the context of an advanced, avant-garde music festival.

Sau Poler, JMII, Clip, Wooky & Alba G Corral and Sunny Graves are the electronic artists chosen to represent the most contemporary and avant-garde side of Barcelona’s music scene.

MUTEK is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the dissemination and development of digital creativity in sound, music and audio-visual art. Its mandate is to provide a platform for the most original and visionary artists currently working in their fields, with the aim of providing an outlet of initiation and discovery for the audiences it seeks to develop. In terms of content, the festival strives to be diverse, with a strong interest in both the experimental and playful sides of digital creativity.

Barcelona, Guest City at MUTEK Montreal, is a collaborative project between Barcelona City Council and the IRL

Since it was launched over a decade ago, the MUTEK Festival has distinguished itself as an international hub of original, avant-garde programming.
