Almacenados, by the playwright David Desola, nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Ariel Awards in Mexico

Cinema.  MEXICO CITY, 11/07/2017

The playwright and film screenwriter David Desola has received yet another nomination for Almacenados (Stored, 2015). The Catalan playwright has been nominated for the award in the category of Best Adapted Screenplay at the Ariel Awards in Mexico, the most important event in the country’s audio-visual sector. The ceremony will be held on 11th July.

Born in Barcelona, David Desola is a playwright and film screenwriter. As a playwright, he has premiered his plays at theatres in Barcelona (Tantarantana, Sala Muntaner) and at the Teatro Español in Madrid, the Teatros del Canal and at festivals such as the Feria de Teatro in Castile and Leon. As a film screenwriter, he has adapted his play Almacenados, which has won him several awards. They include the ‘Works in progress’ Award at the Guadalajara Film Festival, the audience’s award at the Morelia International Film Festival and the Festival of Gijón, and the Art Kingdom Award at the Los Cabos International Film Festival. Almacenados was also chosen at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.

The high point of this feature-length film’s international success is David Desola’s nomination in the category of Best Adapted Screenplay at the Ariel Awards in Mexico, signifying important recognition in the audio-visual sector. The ceremony will be held on 11th July in Mexico City. Almacenados has a good chance of winning the Ariel, bearing in mind the good reception the film has had in Mexico from critics and audiences alike, and thanks to the acknowledgement it has gained at international festivals and competitions.

With its collaboration, the IRL helps to provide continuity to a project that was presented at the Guadalajara Film Festival in Mexico, where Catalonia will be the next edition’s guest of honour. The goal is to promote the Catalan audio-visual sector, in this case with its editors supporting the presentation of Catalan productions in prestigious international contexts.

The film, directed by Jack Zagha Kababie, has the same plot as David Desola’s play: a foreman about to retire shares a few days together with the young man who is going to replace him in a huge empty warehouse where nothing ever seems to happen. Although the plot sounds simple, the film deals with such complex themes as the generation gap or the working class.
