Culture.  New York | Barcelona, 29/10/2014

This October sees two close collaborations between Catalonia and Columbia University in New York. On the one hand, an exchange programme is being introduced between Columbia and Pompeu Fabra University, in the framework of writing and translation studies. On the other, on 29th October, the Catalan film director Isona Passola takes her latest documentary L’endemà to the university in an event open to everyone.

The presentation of Isona Passola’s documentary L’endemà in New York is organized by Columbia University’s Department of Latin American and Iberian Cultures in collaboration with the Institut Ramon Llull. The event, open to the general public, will consist of the screening of the film followed by a discussion, at which the Catalan director will be present. This activity is part of the content of the American university’s “Introduction to Catalan Studies” course and it is also one of the Catalan cultural activities that the department organizes each year.

Also this October, close collaboration is beginning between the Literary Translation Programme of the School of the Arts at Columbia and Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona’s Master’s degree in Literary Creativity. This exchange comes as part of the “Word for Word” programme, which will make it possible for students from New York who speak Catalan to travel to Barcelona this October and for Catalan students to go to the American city next March. During the exchange, classes, workshops and other activities will take place.

The “Word for Word” programme is also getting underway
