Miquel de Palol, author of the Jardí dels set crepuscles trilogy, will be attending Montreal's Festival International de la Littérature this September, where he will discuss his literary works as well as the question of Catalan culture in the face of globalization and independence.

Segon Origen Screening at FIL Montreal

The Catalan film Segon Origen will screen at Montreal's Festival International de la Littérature on September 24 as part of the Lisez l'Europe program, which is presenting several film adaptations of major contemporary novels from Europe.

BE DAZZLED Color and Light with Eugènia Balcells and Roald Hoffmann

The multimedia artist Eugènia Balcells will join the chemist Roald Hoffman in an artistic and scientific exploration of color and light. This visual tour of Balcells's installations and films, including Frequencies and Color Wheel, will be followed by a catalogue of movement in the light spectrum in a quest to discover the origins of life.

Second Emerging Translator Mentorship by IRL and the American Literary Translators Association

Mara Faye Lethem will be mentoring Marlena Gittleman for the Institut Ramon Llull and the American Literary Translators Association's second mentorship project (2017-2018) after an initial pilot in 2015-2016. The program aims to enable an experienced translator and an emerging one to work on a literary translation project from Catalan to English over one academic year.

Joan Vázquez at the Metropolitan Room

The Barcelona theater star Joan Vázquez will play his nightclub show Something’s Coming: A Tribute to Sondheim in Manhattan's Metropolitan room on September 6. His performance at this New York club will feature showtunes by Stephen Soundheim, the composer of Sweeney Todd, Company, Into the Woods, A Little Night Music, and more.
