Authors Jordi Puntí and Alba Dalmau in conversation at Columbia University

Catalan authors Alba Dalmau and Jordi Puntí will be discussing and reading from their recent books of short stories El camí dels esbarzers (2019) and Això no és Amèrica (2017), while exploring how the idea of America has influenced and shaped their work.

 




Alba Dalmau holds a degree in Audiovisual Communication and a Master’s degree in Literary Creation by Universitat Pompeu Fabra. In 2011 she published her first novel, Vonlenska, winner of the Prize Recull. She is also the author of two books that combine literature and photography: On només hi havia un far and Estrena. While living in NY, she wrote the novel Bategant, and the collection of short stories Estàndards, receiving awards for both books. Her most recent book of short fiction, El camí dels esbarzers (2019) has been published this year to critical acclaim. She currently teaches Creative Writing at the Laboratori de Lletres in Barcelona.

Jordi Puntí is an award-winning author, translator, and regular contributor to the Catalan and Spanish press. His first novel, Maletes Perdudes (Lost Luggage), was translated into sixteen languages and won the Spanish National Critics’ Award, the Catalan Booksellers Prize, and the Lletra d’Or. Puntí has also published several collections of short stories, including Pell d’armadillo, Animals tristos, Els Castellans, Messi: exercicis d’estil and Això no és Amèrica, translated into English this year (This is not America, Atria Books 2019). He has also translated novels by Amélie Nothomb, Paul Auster, Daniel Pennac and Edward Gorey.
