Les distàncies by Elena Trapé, film screening in NYC

Cinema.  New York, 04/05/2019

Elena Trapé’s film about a surprise visit by a group of Spanish friends to celebrate the 35th birthday of their friend Comas, who is living in Berlin, is a reunion film in a decidedly minor key that is suffused with the texture of life as it is really lived. None of the friends are exactly where they want to be, and secrets, regrets, and resentments simmer just below the surface. As downbeat as it is, the film always feels refreshingly vital, due to Trapé’s attention to nuance and atmosphere, and to the raw and realistic performances by a great ensemble cast that give this finely wrought fiction the feeling of documentary.

Presented by Instituto Cervantes in New York for PANORAMA EUROPE FESTIVAL.

Panorama Europe Film Festival 2019 celebrates its eleventh edition from May 3rd to 19th and becomes a catalyst for new European cinema in New York City. Organized jointly by the Museum of the Moving Image and the members of EUNIC (National Institute of Culture of the European Union), it includes documentary and fiction works that offer an eclectic vision of the current European culture as well as the cinematographic scene. The festival, which was launched in 2009 by Czech Center New York, this year, has been curated by David Schwartz.
