Institut Ramon LLull

11th Catalan Film Festival at the University of Massachusetts

Cinema.  UMass, 07/11/2018

This November, the Catalan Studies Program at UMass is hosting its 11th Catalan Film Festival. It will be held from November 5th through November 9th.

This year’s theme is: Gender of Genres: New Film Genres in Catalan Cinema. Genres are arbitrary, provisional, and cultural divisions. In this festival, we aim to explore how Catalan women filmmakers are deconstructing these categorizations, by showing films that have been industry-labeled as: comedy, melodrama, coming of age, etc.

STUDENTS OF UMASS: Enroll in the Catalan Film Festival and earn 1 class credit! This is an awesome opportunity to join together and watch Catalan Cinema. All you need to do is come to the 5 sessions (all in the week of November, from 11/5-11/9), write a three-page reflection, and enjoy snacks, movies, and community! Also -- don't be intimidated by the language -- all of the films will have subtitles. To earn class credit: Sign up for the class in Spire: 597T-01 Catalan Cinema.
