Catalan Plays at the Out of the Wings Festival

Performing.  London, 02/08/2019

This year's edition of the Out of the Wings Festival, an event that celebrates theatre in translation, will include the English version of Casanovas' "Mala broma" (trans. by Tim Gutteridge) and a workshop by R. Huddleson based on the localisation of Bonany's "La pell escrita".

The Out of the Wings Festival is held yearly in London. Its fourth edition will take place at the Omnibus Theatre, in Clapham, and will focus on theatre from the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking worlds. Additionally, this year's edition also presents a workshop on the localisation of a theatrical piece based on the translation of a Catalan play and the representation of widely acclaimed Casanovas' play, "Mala broma".

Bad Joke, by Jordi Casanovas, translated by Tim Gutteridge, directed by Dadiow Lin. 2nd of August, 7:30pm.
A play exploring the limits of humour, it presents two friends with a penchant for bad jokes who reunite after twenty years. One of them has taken the world by storm as a humourist, the other simply works at a newspaper. Will the latter be able to make the most unimaginable joke her wife could ever think about?

Objects, Emotions and the Translated Play, a workshop by Richard Huddleson, 2nd of August, 2pm to 5pm.
This workshop explores the process of localisation of Manel Bonany's Catalan play "La pell escrita". Stemming from work with the transgender community in Belfast as the original play was adapted to be performed in Northern Ireland, the workshop looks at how theatre professionals can use objects to guide their practice.
