What is perhaps pone of the most beloved quartets from Catalonia, the Quartet Casals, will be performing alongside cellist Alban Gerhardt at the prestigious Wigmore Hall, in London.

Calling all classical music fans, you are in for a treat! Next Monday, 17th of June, you have the unique opportunity to see one of the most prestigious quartets in Catalonia perform with German cellist Alban Gerhardt at the Wigmore Hall. The repertoire will include Shostakovich's autobiographical masterpiece, the String Quartet No. 8 in C minor Op. 110, and Schubert's String Quintet in C D956.

The Quartet Casals was founded in 1997 ayt the Escuela Reina Sofía in Madrid, and currently resided in Barcelona. They have compiled a substantial discography, 12 CDs ranging from classics such as Mozart and Schubert, 20th Century icons such as Ravel and Debussy and lesser known Catalan composers such as Toldrà. During 2019 and 2020, the project undertaken by the Quartet to record all of Beethoven's quartets will be released. On top of a very impressive discography, the Quartet Casals has also played in the world's main halls, and has received several awards, including the Premi Nacional de Cultura [National Award for Culture] awarded by the Consell Nacional de la Cultura i de les Arts, one of the most prestigious recognitions in Catalan culture.

The Quartet Casals has been acknowledged as a cultural ambassador by the Institut Ramon Llull.
