KE JALEO
jazz, mestissatge // latin, flamenco,
Ke Jaleo is a flamenco-jazz band founded in late-2011 by Xavi Turull, Diego Cortés and Cristo Fontecilla and later joined by Jordi Franco, Roger Blàvia and Inma Ortiz, this last in 2013, replacing Rosalía Vila. The talent and magic of percussionist Xavi Turull and guitarists Diego Cortés and Cristo Fontecilla are fused in an explosion of energy in this flamenco-jazz-fusion outfit. When these three musicians take to the stage together, the result is an avalanche of passion, colours and textures in which, building on a rich flamenco base, they give free rein to their earthy virtuoso rhythms, liberally sprinkled with melodies that come from the very guts. Sensitivity and fury go hand-in-hand to create a sound steeped in the legacy of such legendary bands as Ojos de Brujo and Amalgama with Xavi Turull, and Iberia and Jaleo led by Diego Cortés. This is a musical background without which the Fontecilla’s wise, eclectic style, Blàvia’s force, the savoir-faire of Franco (on bass) and Ortiz, would not be possible.
Having played at Vic Live Music Market and Barcelona International Jazz Festival de Jazz in 2012, the band released their debut album, Alaire, in 2013, on the Karonte Distribuciones label, launching a gruelling tour to present tracks from it that has led them as far afield as Korea.
