MARIA DEL MAR BONET

folk i músiques del món  //  mediterranean

For Maria del Mar Bonet, the Mediterranean has always been the key point of reference in both her personal and artistic life. That sea is her source of inspiration. She began steeped in Balearic music and folklore and gradually began to seek her songs in the popular roots of different Mediterranean lands: North Africa, Italy, Greece, Turkey… She was a member of Els Setze Jutges, the legendary 1960s protest band, before striking out on her own in the 1970s as a solo artist, performing all over the world. In a career spanning over 40 years, she has worked with countless artists (including Milton Nascimento, Jackson Browne and Georges Moustaki) and has received countless prestigious prizes and accolades. In 2012, the University of the Balearic Islands awarded Maria del Mar Bonet an honorary degree.
