JOHN TALABOT

electrònica i hip hop  //

Rockdelux magazine wrote: “Who is John Talabot? Whether we know or not, the really important thing is, what is John Talabot? Electronica that is at once essay and pop, steeped in something as difficult and necessary as mystery, ever more obscure and yet ever more vital. Those who still do not know who John Talabot is should stop wasting time on lucubration’s and start getting life and air by studying, not the tracks of his identity, but the tracks of his music, which are woven and condensed into puzzles that are hard to catch hold of and decipher, but easy to enjoy. In fact, our man does not wear his alias in order to add to his importance, but to take away from it”.

Fin, released in 2012, is his latest album. On it, we can discover from the “DepakIne” to the solemn ending provided by “So will it be now...”, as Talabot leads us on a journey in which cinematic compositions are fused with his characteristic organic sound. This is music enriched with ideas and influences borrowed from pop, Eastern music, the disco mirror ball and even instrumental hip hop. A particularly spellbinding moment is provided by Ekhi Lopetegi (Delorean) when he guests on “Journeys”, one of the most openly pop tracks on the album, here giving a dreamlike, nostalgic feel. However, far from seeking to get the listener hooked the quick way, Fin is a highly daring work in which this talented Catalan artist embarks on a never-ending quest for new sonic realities in his trademark, absolutely inimitable style.
