FILTHY HABITS ENSEMBLE
experimental / contemporània, jazz // pop & rock, experimental
The Filthy Habits Ensemble (FHE) was founded in Barcelona in 2008 by Arco y Flecha in an attempt to revive some of Frank Zappa’s most brilliant contributions to instrumental music for small and medium-sized jazz-rock groups. The nine-piece Ensemble, composed of five wind instruments and a rhythm section, arrange compositions in very similar style to the way Zappa himself used to. The FHE have performed at jazz festivals all over Spain. In Laredo, they shared the stage with former members of Zappa’s own bands, and they have played at several of the world’s most important events devoted to his music. More recently, they have also started to experiment with other material, including a series of pieces by different composers in a provocative late-50s musical style known as exotica. This year, the Filthy Habits Ensemble has prepared a new repertoire featuring their own arrangements of works by Stravinsky and Varèse, as well as original compositions by the musical arranger and director of the group El Pricto. The Discordian Records label released an album featuring this new material in 2013.
