We can hardly help being surprised that two kids just out of post-adolescence should have made a record that will revolutionise our country’s rock scene in the broadest sense of the world. L’Hereu Escampa are a two-piece outfit: Carles plays guitar and Guillem drums in an austere but highly effective line-up. In their chosen musical field, saving on instruments means less empty flourish and more freedom to be aggressive, original and really rock. L’Hereu Escampa are punk, there is no doubt about it, and people are free to interpret punk anyway they like. Fortunately, our heroes feel no need to accompany their sound with pamphlet-style words. On the contrary, their lyrics are nothing like those that the county wise-guy might come up with. Emphasising technique, they clearly show that a different “dirty” music is possible.
