Agustí Fernández (Palma de Mallorca, 1954) is one of Catalonia’s most avant-garde and international musicians, an international reference in the world of jazz and improv. Cecil Taylor and Iannis Xenakis were powerful influences on his concept of music. Fernández has worked alongside such great improv musicians as Peter Kowald, Derek Bailey, Evan Parker and Barry Guy and has recorded more than fifty acclaimed albums. These include, particularly, Pianoactivity (2012), which gained an honorary mention in The New York Jazz City Record best of 2012, and Aurora (2005), fourth best album in the history of Catalan jazz according to Jaç magazine. In 2010, Agustí Fernández received the City of Barcelona Prize for Music.
