Founded in 1983, this ensemble was awarded the title of “Cobla Ciutat de Barcelona”, by Barcelona City Council in 1997. From the first, the band has focused on all aspects of concert music for cobla, performing well-known works, forgotten pieces and new compositions. Cobla Sant Jordi has played live throughout Catalonia and Roussillon, regularly taking part in the leading sardana dance meetings all over the country and at international festivals. The recording history of Cobla Sant Jordi embraces more than 60 CDs with richly varied content. Moreover, their work with different artists over the last five years (including Paolo Fresu, Lluís Vidal and Joan Díaz from the jazz world; the flamenco guitarist Niño Josele; the singer-songwriter Roger Mas; the DJ Raph Dumas; and the multi-instrumentalist Pascal Comelade) has helped to position Cobla Sant Jordi as one of the most interesting and adventurous ensembles on the Catalan music scene today.
