Grants for the translation of works originally written in Catalan or Aranese

The applicant should consult the Grant Rules and the Grant Call, given that some changes have been made with respect to previous years. The application forms filled out must be from the current year 2024.

PURPOSE

Translation of works originally written in Catalan or Occitan (in its Aranese variety): fiction, poetry, drama, graphic novels, non-fiction, works in the Humanities field and children’s books.

The translation of the work for which the grant is requested must be published after the date of the award resolution.

RECIPIENTS

These grants are available to Spanish and foreign publishers, self-employed individuals and legal entities. The applicants must meet the following requirements and conditions:

  • publish the work after the date of the final resolution until November 15 2025
  • hold the rights to publish the work
  • publish the work in print format and distribute it commercially through bookshops (online publications, print on demand and self-publishing are excluded)
  • The work in translation must be distributed in the publishing market of the language into which the work has been translated.
  • In the case of works in translation where the applicant publisher and the translator are the same person, the applicant publisher must have at least two partners.

Applicants can submit up to a maximum of two applications per call.

Grant-supported expenditure

Only the translator's fees are considered grant-supported expenditure. In the case of poetry anthologies, the anthologist's fees are also considered grant-funded expenditure.

Eligible expenditure is defined as that on the provision of translation services by a professional external to the grant beneficiary company and/or entity and for which the former has received financial remuneration.

APPLICATION SUBMISSION

-Online: Spanish applicants, self-employed individuals and legal entities.

-Online:Foreign applicants (self-employed individuals and legal entities) who have applied for a grant to the Institut Ramon Llull in the past.

- Foreign applicants (self-employed individuals and legal entities) requesting an Institut Ramon Llull grant for the first time. In this case, accreditation is required. When filling out the accreditation form you must select “Literature and Thought” as the recipient department.

The accreditation (user and password) is valid for five years from the date of issue, unless there is some change in the documents provided, of which the IRL must be informed.

Please take into account that you should request your accreditation at least 48 hours before the application deadline.

1st call: February 12th to April 30th, 2024

Forecasted 2nd call: May 2nd to June 20th, 2024

(For works scheduled for publication between September 2024 and November 2025)

 

Forecasted 3rd call: July 1st to October 31st, 2024

(For works scheduled for publication between December 2024 and November 2025)

 

SUBSTANTIATING THE GRANT

The applicant must substantiate at least 80% of the requested (and eligible) amount in order to receive the awarded grant, or the grant will be revoked.

Proof of expenditure must be submitted before 15 November 2025.
