Barcelona City Council and the IRL sign the collaboration agreement with the Fundación El Libro of Buenos Aires

Literature.  Buenos Aires,  08/10/2018

Barcelona will be the guest city at the 45th edition of the Buenos Aires International Book Fair, to be held from 25th April to 13th May 2019. In order to organize the programme of activities, a collaboration agreement was signed today at noon at the headquarters of the Institut de Cultura between Barcelona City Council, the IRL and the Fundación El Libro of Buenos Aires. In attendance at the meeting were the commissioner for Culture, Joan Subirats; the director of the IRL, Iolanda Batallé; and the institutional director of the Fundación El Libro of Argentina, Oche Califa.

Barcelona will disembark in Buenos Aires with a minimum of 35 authors in Catalan and Spanish, although it is working with the publishing industry to make the figure even higher.

On 30th August the first names of the participants were made public. The programme features established authors such as the poet Joan Margarit; the scriptwriter of the well-known TV series Merlí, Héctor Lozano, who will present the novel Quan érem peripatètics, as well as new voices in literature today. One of the high points of the programme will be the performance by the singer Sílvia Pérez Cruz during the “Noche de la feria”, a big musical event organized by the guest city at an open-air venue.

The participation of Barcelona as guest city at the Buenos Aires International Book Fair is a unique opportunity to show the city’s immense literary heritage in all its facets, and to strengthen the historical bonds that unite both cities.
