Lleida is host to the latest International Congress for teachers of Catalan organised by the IRL

Language.  Lleida,  02/07/2014

From 21 to 24 July Lleida University will be hosting the XXVIII International Congress for teachers of Catalan organised each year by the Institut Ramon Llull. Over the four days the teachers of the Catalan studies abroad university network coordinated by the IRL will take part in presentations and workshops around educational innovation activities and learning strategies given by specialised teachers from both Catalan universities and other institutions such as TERMCAT and the Language Policy Department.

The inauguration, which will take place on 21st at 16.00, will be given by the secretary of Universities and Research at the Department of Economics and Knowledge, Antoni Castellà. Other speakers will be the director of the IRL, Àlex Susanna, and the rector of the University of Lleida, Roberto Fernández.

This year the congress will join in the commemorations of the tercentenary of 1714 and the centenary of the birth of the poet Joan Vinyoli. In this framework, Joaquim Albareda, professor of Modern History at Pompeu Fabra University, will be giving the opening lecture The reasons for the resistance in 1714; and there will be a presentation of Route 1714, a tourist and cultural itinerary around the outstanding places, monuments and towns of the War of the Spanish Succession in Catalonia.
