Anna Guitart appointed new Director of the Institut Ramon Llull

The governing board of the Institut Ramon Llull appointed journalist and screenwriter Anna Guitart as the institute's new director at its meeting on Tuesday, 16 December.




Barcelona-born journalist and screenwriter Anna Guitart will take up the post of Director of the Institut Ramon Llull (the Catalan cultural diplomacy body) on 8 January 2026, following the approval of her appointment by the governing board of the consortium on Tuesday. The consortium comprises the Generalitat de Catalunya (the Government of Catalonia), the Govern de les Illes Balears (Government of the Balearic Islands), the Ajuntament de Barcelona (Barcelona City Council) and the Ajuntament de Palma (Palma City Council).

Anna Guitart is a journalist and screenwriter specialising in literature and books. She served as curator for Barcelona’s literary and artistic programme as guest of honour at the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL). She began her career at Ràdio Barcelona before working on the programme La República with Joan Barril on COM Ràdio. She was part of the team behind the documentary Setembres, directed by Carles Bosch. She has worked as a screenwriter on programmes including De què va (Canal 33), El bocamoll (TV3) and Via Llibre (Canal 33), and directed the second season of Savis (Canal 33). She has presented and directed literary and interview programmes, such as the book feature of Tria33 (Canal 33) and Tot el temps del món (Canal 33). She has contributed to the programme Tot es mou (TV3), El matí de Catalunya Ràdio and the newspaper Ara, and has served as editorial advisor for the magazine El món d’ahir.

The governing board meeting was chaired by Sònia Hernández Almodóvar, Minister of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya; Pedro Vidal Monserrat, Secretary for Culture and Sport of the Govern de les Illes Balears; and Xavier Marcé, Councillor for Culture and Creative Industries at the Ajuntament de Barcelona.

Anna Guitart will take over as Director of the Institut Ramon Llull following the conclusion of Pere Almeda's tenure on 7 November. The institute is dedicated to the international promotion of Catalan language and culture.
