Institut Ramon LLull

FIL Guadalajara 2025, Barcelona Guest of Honour

07/07/2025

From November 29 to December 7, Barcelona will be the Guest of Honour at the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL), the most important cultural event in Latin America, coinciding with the tenth anniversary of Barcelona’s designation as a UNESCO City of Literature.

With a programme featuring over sixty authors, the event —curated by journalist Anna Guitart in collaboration with the entire literary sector and the Institut Ramon Llull— will showcase the vitality of Barcelona’s literary ecosystem in Mexico.

The motto “Vindran les flors” (“The Flowers Will Come”), taken from a short story by Mercè Rodoreda, connects Barcelona’s literary tradition with the city of Guadalajara and the Sant Jordi celebration. It also encapsulates the wide range of events included in the Barcelona at FIL programme, which goes far beyond literature: talks, presentations, round tables, exhibitions, concerts, theatre and dance performances, gastronomic tastings, and more.

Barcelona will assert itself as a city that celebrates books every day through a dense and vibrant cultural fabric, made up of its network of libraries and bookstores.
The central role played by major publishing groups will also be highlighted, along with the vitality of independent publishers, literary agencies, printing houses, translators, proofreaders, and distributors.
