Literarisches Colloquium Berlin is a forum for reflection, an experimental workshop, and a talent incubator, promoting exchange and interaction with international institutions. Founded in 1963, it is one of the most renowned literary institutions in Europe and internationally and has established itself as a reference point for contemporary literary creation, exchange, and reflection.
The international writing residency is housed in a Wilhelminian-era villa by the Wannsee and maintains a wide network of partners and collaborators. It hosts a variety of public events, including book launches, outdoor festivals, intimate reading courses, comic vernissages, meetings, a playwrights' laboratory, and fairs.
Two places are offered, both for the same period: from 15 November to 15 December 2025.
This call forms part of a new line of in-kind and non-competitive grants for taking part in international residencies at centres with which the Institut Ramon Llull has a collaboration agreement. Thanks to these agreements, artists and authors from the Catalan artistic and cultural sphere will be able to participate in strategic residencies across all disciplines. The in-kind grant covers accommodation, board, and the organisation of the residency. Calls have already been announced for Château de Lavigny and Casamia.
Applications must be submitted via a form, including the following documentation:
- Cover letter in English or German.
- Description of the project to be undertaken during the residency, in English or German (1 page).
- Excerpt from a published or unpublished work (in Catalan and translated into English or German, if available), of between 5 and 10 pages.
- List of publications and CV in English or German.
A jury of representatives from Literarisches Colloquium Berlin will select the residents based on the following criteria:
- Applicants must have at least one original literary work published in Catalan under their sole authorship, in one of the following genres: fiction, poetry, theatre, non-fiction, and children’s or young adult literature.
- The relevance of the project to the host institution’s lines of activity. Consideration will be given to how the project aligns with the residency centre’s creative priorities, linguistic fluency, ability to integrate with other residents, willingness to exchange and interact with fellow residents and guests, and readiness to participate in post-residency activities.
- The relevance, interest, and quality of the proposed project. Evaluation will consider the strength and feasibility of the project, the themes addressed, and the quality of the writing.
- The applicant’s track record or experience. Consideration will be given to previous publications, education, and any accolades received.
The full call and application form are available on the Literarisches Colloquium Berlin website.
