Between 12 and 26 May 2025, the application period will be open to take part in the International Writers' Residency at the Château de Lavigny in Switzerland. The residency, managed by the Fondation Heinrich Maria & Jane Ledig-Rowohlt, is housed in a mid-19th-century building constructed on the site of a former castle. Each residency hosts a maximum of six writers, translators or screenwriters, each with their own private workspace.
This call is part of the new non-competitive in-kind grant line for international residencies at centres with which the Institut Ramon Llull has a collaboration agreement. Thanks to these agreements, artists and authors in the Catalan artistic and cultural sphere may take part in strategic residencies across all disciplines. The in-kind grant covers accommodation, living expenses, and the organisation of the residency. The Château de Lavigny call is the first to be announced this year.
The selected writer may apply for a mobility grant from the Institut Ramon Llull to receive support for travel expenses.
Applications must be submitted via email to chlavigny@hotmail.com with the following documentation:
- A cover letter in English or French.
- A description of the project to be carried out during the residency, in English or French, between 3 and 5 pages.
- An excerpt from a published or unpublished work (in Catalan and translated into English or French), between 5 and 10 pages.
- A list of publications and a CV in English or French.
A jury composed of representatives of the Foundation will select the residents according to the following criteria:
- Candidates must have at least one original literary work published in Catalan under their sole authorship, in one of the following genres: fiction, poetry, theatre, non-fiction, and children’s or young adult literature.
- The relationship of the project to the host institution’s lines of work. Consideration will be given to alignment with the residency centre’s creative priorities, linguistic fluency and capacity to integrate with other residents, willingness to exchange and interact with other residents and guests, and readiness to take part in follow-up activities.
- The relevance, interest, and quality of the proposed project. Consideration will be given to the project’s strength and feasibility, the themes addressed, and the quality of the writing.
- The applicant’s background or experience. Consideration will be given to past publications, studies, and any honours received.
You will find the full call on the Château de Lavigny website.
