Mònica Batet will be Ledig House’s second Catalan writer in residence this season, following Marta Carnicero. Mònica Batet is a writer, philologist, and professor of Catalan. Born in Tarragona, Mònica studied Catalan Philolgy at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili. She has written four novels and some shorts stories. Her novel L’habitació grisa (The Gray Room, Empúries, 2006) won the Just Manuel Casero prize for short novel. She subsequently published No et miris el riu (Don't Look at the River), a finalist for the Crexells 2013 prize. Her third novel, published in 2015 with Meteora, Neu, óssos blancs i alguns homes més valents que els altres (Snow, Bears, and Men Who Are Braver than Others), received a subsidy from the Instució de les Lletres Catalanes.

Ledig House and Institute Ramon Llull have worked together to bring Catalan authors for a one-month stay in New York since 2010, with past Catalan writers in residence at Ledig House including Gemma Gorga, Francesc Serés, Sebastià Alzamora, Marina Espasa, and Anna Aguilar-Amat. Marta Carnicero, author of the critically acclaimed El cel segons Google, was Ledig House’s most recent writer in residence.

Founded in 1992, the Writers Omi program has housed more than 100 authors and translators from over 50 countries to promote cultural exchange and creativity. This year's stay will include an editor meet-up to boost international authors' connections in the United States.
