The composer José Manuel Berenguer takes part in the Biennial for Electroacoustic Music and Sound Art in Berlin

Music.  28/09/2017

Kontakte, the festival of Electroacoustic Music and Sound Art, is held every two years in Berlin. From 28th September to 1st October it will have @bienenVolk, a sound installation addressed to the public created by the Catalan composer José Manuel Berenguer.

The Biennial for Electroacoustic Music and Sound Art is held in the Hanseatenweg arts centre in Berlin. For the four days it lasts various concerts, sound installations, performances, artists’ discussions, films and workshops are organized. Created in 2015, the festival is holding its second edition this year with 28 world premieres and over 100 artists from 27 different countries.

The electroacoustic music of Catalan José Manuel Berenguer is also part of the festival, which gives those taking part an experimental laboratory. To be precise, Berenguer is presenting his work @bienenVolk there. In it, the inside of a beehive in the Castell dels Tres Dragons in the Ciutadella Park serves as an acoustic source. The activities of the beehive are recorded and transmitted live in Berlin, so that the artist can use them in concert at the Gräsergarten of the Akademie der Künste.

José Manuel Berenguer (Barcelona, 1955) is the conductor of the Orquestra del Caos and of the Festival Música 13, Honorary President of UNESCO’s International Music Council’s International Conference of Electroacoustic Music and former president of the Spanish Association for Electroacoustic Music, among others. Berenguer has won prizes and distinctions awarded by international institutions such as the Prix de Musique Electroacoustique in Bourges (France) or the Festival de Músiques Contemporànies in Barcelona.

His recent work has tended to include installations and real-time computing devices, with reflections about philosophy and the history of science, the limits of language, ethics, artificial intelligence and robotics. Some of these are Transfeer, La Casa de la Pólvora and Mega kai Mikron.

This year’s edition of Kontakte festival has 28 world premieres and over 100 artists from 27 different countries.
