The documentary 'Planeta Blanc' at the V Madrid Contemporary Art Biennial

Cinema.  Madrid, 06/06/2014

Planeta Blanc, a documentary directed by Aymar del Amo, will be shown on 6 June as part of the programme of the V Contemporary Art Biennial, organised by the ONCE Foundation, which is held in Madrid. It is part of a season of cinema within the Biennial which focuses on disability; mental illnesses and physical, sensorial and intellectual handicaps.

The documentary tells the story of the first expedition of people with disabilities which reached the South Pole in the steps of the adventurer Ernest Shackleton. Three years later the protagonists meet again to recall that incredible story of capacity, human endurance and solidarity. Aymar del Amo (Barcelona, 1978) began his career with the collective film 200 km in 2003, selected for the San Sebastián Film Festival and given a commercial release after being shown at a number of international festivals. He founded the Zucre Films production company, taking part in productions for television and cinema as editor, director of photography and director. In 2013 he produced and directed his first work for cinema and television, Planeta Blanc, selected for the Barcelona International DOCS Festival and the Bogotà Film Festival. The film was shown in cinemas and on television and was nominated for the Goya and Gaudí Prizes in 2014.

The Contemporary Art Biennial is a project that aims to recognise and distribute the work of artists who have some kind of disability or find their inspiration in it. And its purpose is to accomplish the two key goals of the ONCE Foundation: a culture accessible to everyone, working from different approaches, and access for artists with disabilities to the art market circuit. This would achieve their social inclusion and entry to work. This V Biennial will be structured around a visual arts exhibition, with a series of parallel  activities including both seasons of the performing arts (cinema, theatre, dance and music) and artistic training workshops in any of the disciplines.
