The first show the choreographer will be presenting at the festival is ‘Firemen with large hoses’, a one-man hula-hoop performance which consists of almost fifteen minutes of dance emulating a pornographic fantasy through sport. The musical accompaniment is a fusion of the music of Vivaldi and the soundtrack of an X-rated movie. The piece is one of the ones selected to open the festival on 22 May.

The Catalan choreographer’s second offering is the show ‘No dance no heaven’, (Pas de dance, pas de paradis) where we are to imagine that the bodies of Anna Pavlova, Gene Kelly, John Travolta and Anne Keersmaeker take possession of a single body to dance legendary solos such as Swan Lake, Singin’ in the Rain, Saturday Night Fever and Fase. The whole show becomes a tribute to  the art and history of dance, from a malicious self-criticism aimed at contemporary dance creation. The show has been created specially for the festival and the audience will be able to enjoy it on 23 and 24 May. Thirdly, Pere Faura will also be offering a dance workshop, open to anyone who would like to take part, on 24 and 25 May.

Pere Faura was born in Barcelona in 1980. He studied music there for more than ten years, concentrating on song and the flute. For two years he studied drama at the Theatre Institute, combining that with contemporary ballet and dance at Àrea, espai de dansa and creation. In 2002 he moved to Amsterdam to study choreographic direction at the School for New Dance Development, from where he graduated four years later. After doing a master’s degree in choreography, he took part in a number of projects as dancer and choreographer.
