Music.  Liverpool,  01/05/2014
Catalan Sounds are back in the UK: Alberto Montero, Anímic, Beach Beach and Joan Colomo will perform at Liverpool Sound City, the largest international music festival in the UK, that will take place 1-3 May. On their way to Liverpool, Anímic and Beach Beach will also play in London, at The Old Blue Last Disorders night along with Habitats and Forest on Friday 2 May.

Archimedes' Principle, award-winning Catalan playwright Josep Maria Miró's latest play is presented at Park Theatre 15 April - 11 May. Lee Knight and Julian Sims starr in this brilliant production by Foxtrotter Theatre Company, directed by Marta Noguera. Don't miss the chance to meet Josep Maria Miró at the post-show talk on 8 May.

Catalan company Atresbandes come back to the UK with their new show Locus Amoenus. Their previous play Solfatara was awarded First Prize and Audience Prize at Be Festival 2013 and was shortlisted for the Total Theatre Award at the Edinburgh Fringe 2013. The critically acclaimed theatre company will perform at MAC in Birmingham, Slunglow in Leeds and Gift Festival, Gateshead from 30 April to 3 May.

The IV basque, Catalan and Galician cinema season will take place at the Library of Birmingham from 8 to 15 May. On Thursday 15 May the Catalan section of the season will feature the film 'La Plaga', directed by Neus Ballús and premiered in the UK at the London Film Festival. The producer and co-writer Pau Subirós will be with us to discuss the film after the screening.

The Spring Weekend of the London Spanish Film Festival will present the third edition of the Acting Across Frontiers section which will look at the work and profilic career of Catalan actor Sergi López, who will join us for a unique on-stage interview with Professor Maria Delgado on 17 May

Barry Guy is one of the world's leading bass soloists and improvisers. He funded Barry Guy New in the mid 90's and is well known as an all-star band that brings together the biggest names in the world of contemporary Jazz and Improvisation, including Catalan pianist Agustí Fernández along with musicians from Great Britain, America, England, Sweden, Switzerland and Germany. The 3-day residency at OTO Cafe from 20 to 22 May will be their first ever performance together in London.

Somerset House, in collaboration with A(by)P, will bring acclaimed Barcelona-born graffiti artist Sixe Parades’ ode to Peruvian and Andean aesthetics to its underground spaces from 21 to 27 May for his first major solo show in the UK.

The leading dance event on Ireland's Arts calendar presents El Pliegue (the bow) by Catalan performer Sònia Sánchez from 28 to 30 May. In this piece, the dancer pushes the limits of the traditional flamenco form to create her own furious, passionate dance language. She explores each fold and unfold as her body bends and stretches to sounds, silences, melodies, discords, passions and understandings.
