This summer, the University of Warwick will host the Warwick Translates Summer School. Between the 6th and the 10th of July, attendees will have the opportunity to translate texts from different genres into English with leading professional translators. The course will cover different genres, both fiction and non-fiction.
The different languages available include Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish and Catalan. The latter will have Peter Bush as a tutor, a well-renowned professional who has translated texts by Josep Pla, Quim Monzó or Najat El Hachmi. In 2015, he received one of the most prestigious awards in Catalonia, the Creu de Sant Jordi, for the translation and promotion of Catalan literature.
On top of the main literary translation workshops, additional events will include discussion panels with publishers and editors, translation slams and a keynote lecture by Preti Taneja (‘Translating Shakespeare in conflict and post-conflict zones: the challenge to “universal” human rights’).
The deadline for bursary applications is March 22nd. For more details on how to apply, register to the event or to check the provisional programme, please visit the event’s website.
