The IRL convenes the competition to choose the curating project that will represent Catalonia at the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale

The Institut Ramon Llull (IRL) is convening a public competition to choose the curating project for the participation of Catalonia at the 15th Venice Architecture Biennale next year. This will be the third time the IRL has promoted the presence of Catalonia there. 

A conceptual framework has been set for the presentation of projects. It is designed to encourage a reflection that encompasses the fields of landscape, architecture and urban space through a set of projects and actions that express a renewed vision of the contemporary habitat.

The proposals received will be assessed by an independent jury made up of:

PresidentCarme Pinós, an architect with an established international career and recognised prestige, winner of awards such as the Catalan Government National Architecture and Public Space Prize (2008) and the A.plus Prize for the best professional career (2008). She has given classes in universities all over the world.

MembersJordi Ros, architect and director of ETSAB; Eva Prats, architect; Lluís-Xavier Comeron, dean of COAC; Fernando Marzà, COAC member for Culture and Damià Martínez, director of the IRL creative department.

The competition will be divided into three phases. First, Participation, in which until midday 1st July proposals can be submitted, briefly explained in a maximum of two pages, by all interested professionals and companies that meet the requirements. Second, an Ideas phase in which the jury will invite a maximum of three participants selected to develop the initial project. And lastly, the Contracting of the winning project. The jury’s final verdict will be published before 31 July.
