The IRL calls a selection process for curation proposals for Catalonia’s participation in the Venice Biennale Arte 2019
The Institut Ramon Llull has called a selection process to choose a curation proposal for Catalonia’s participation in the 58th edition of the Venice Biennale Arte 2019 within the Eventi collaterali program. This will be the sixth time the IRL has presented Catalonia at the Venice Biennale Arte, which will take place from May 11 to November 24, 2019 and will be curated by Ralph Rugoff

The winning project from this process must stand out among the many proposals presented at the Venice Biennale, contributing value to the Biennale’s discourse through the unique characteristics of artistic practice in the Catalan context, understood in its broadest sense.

The project has a total production budget of €225,000 (including taxes). The proposal must be adapted to the conceptual framework set out in the selection rules and include new work.

To choose the winning proposal, the IRL has named an expert panel chaired by artist Dora Garcia, with members João Fernandes, deputy director of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Carles Guerra, director of the Fundació Tapies, and Cèlia del Diego, art critic and director of the Centre d’Art la Panera, as well as the director of the Institut Ramon Llull’s Creation Department, who will participate in an advisory capacity but will not vote.

The selection process will be divided into two phases. The first round is open to proposals submitted by all interested professionals and companies that fulfill the requirements.  In this first round, which closes at 12:00 pm on June 25, 2018, applicants must submit a CV and a 2-page proposal that reflects the general ideas behind the project and the selected artist or artists. The expert panel will then choose up to three finalist proposals to participate in the second round, which will be announced from July 3. These finalists will have to submit a proposal that details the content of the project, an exhibition design proposal and a budget before July 13. Subsequently, they will have to present their proposal in person to the expert panel on July 20.

You can consult the selection rules here.
