From 9 to 13 September, Institut Ramon Llull is hosting the 17th annual Making Catalan Literature Travel for International Publishers and Agents programme. The event is being held as part of La Setmana del Llibre en Català (Catalan Book Week) for the third year in a row.

The Institut Ramon Llull will submit the project AIRE/ARIA/AIR for participation to the Biennale di Venezia as part of the Collateral Events, an official section of the 17th International Architecture Exhibition. AIRE/ARIA/AIR curated by Olga Subirós was selected by an expert panel from an open called organized by the Institut Ramon Llull. The 16th International Architecture Exhibition 2020 will open on May 23th 2020.

Catalonia will participate in the 58th edition of the Venice Biennale of Art as part of the Eventi Collaterali program with a project curated by Pedro Azara titled Losing Your Head (Idols). Catalonia's exhibition at the Venice Biennale, to open 11 May 2019, is produced by the Institut Ramon Llull.

The jury of the Ramon Llull International Prize has unanimously decided to grant this distinction in its Catalan Studies and Cultural Diversity category to the professor in the Department of Intercultural Studies at Hosei University, Ko Tazawa, a translator of works by Catalan authors into Japanese and the translator of Yukio Mishima into Catalan, as well as the founder of Catalan Studies in Japan. The jury particularly showcased his role as a trainer of experts in Catalan Studies in Japan.

The Board of the Ramon Llull Foundation met this Monday, the 18th of March, at the Palau Baró de Quadras, the headquarters of the Institute Ramon Llull in Barcelona. At the meeting, the Board approved the renewal of the conditions of the Ramon Llull International Prizes and the participation of Andorran writers in the International Book Fair of Buenos Aires, and the Faber residence Andorra was explained.

The last functions of Temporada Alta in Ibero-America were held this weekend, closing almost 4 weeks of performances in 3 countries (Argentina, Peru and Uruguay). There was a total of 81 functions, 33 of which correspond to Catalan productions and the Transatlantic Dramaturgy Tournament, with more than 2,000 spectators and the cooperation of the Institut Ramon Llull. Temporada Alta Buenos Aires achieved 100% occupancy with Terra Baixa, Cases, Calma! and Vida, the productions that the festival took to the other side of the Atlantic with the goal of internationalising the country’s theatre scene.

On December 10, 2018, the Institut Ramon Llull’s Management Board appointed Ariadna Puiggené as the new Director of the Language and Universities Department and Francesc Serés as the new Director of the Creation Department. At the meeting, the Faber Arts, Sciences and Humanities Residency joined ranks with the Institut Ramon Llull as part of its strategic action plan and programming. In the future, the Faber will serve as the bedrock for launching a network of residencies focusing on the arts, sciences and humanities across the Catalan-speaking world.

IRL’s Management Board appoints new departmental directors

The Ramon Llull Foundation celebrated the seventh edition of the Ramon Llull International Award in Andorra today. The prize is awarded to individuals or institutions outside the Catalan-speaking territories who have striven to promote Catalan language and culture on the international stage. This year’s prizes went to Maria Delgado, the foremost British expert in Catalan cinema and theatre, Finnish linguist Christer Laurén, and Portuguese translator Artur Guerra. Laurén received the Ramon Llull International Award for Catalan Studies and Linguistic Diversity, which is jointly awarded by the Ramon Llull Foundation and the Fundació Congrés de Cultura Catalana.
