Now, a bit more about Sara Pi:

Catalan singer Sara Pi started working on her solo project in 2008 with the Brazilian producer and musician Érico Moreira. The result was "Burning", a unique and original album that revolutionized the Spanish soul scene. "Break the Chains" was her second album, released in 2015. Now Sara Pi presents L.O.V.E., a new single that serves as a wait for what will be her third album, which is currently recording. L.O.V.E was born with the intention of reflecting a critical but hopeful look at the most unjustifiable crime caused by man: wars.

Making her UK debut, saxophonist and singer Eva Fernández, will be bringing her trio and her new music at the only Lunch Show of the London Catalan Festival. An afternoon of originals inspired by the poetry of Alfonsina Storni, Alejandra Pizarnik and Julio Cortázar will be the perfect recipe for a lovely lunch with friends and family in the heart of London.

Now, a bit more about Eva Fernández:

Eva Fernández is a promising young Catalan jazz musician who stands out as a saxophonist and singer. Despite her youth, Eva Fernandez has gained a lot of experience in just a few years and is firmly on the list of impressive young female vocalists. She has already performed with such great names as Perico Sambeat, Dick Oatts, Ken Peplowski, Ignasi Terraza, Bobby Gordon, Jesse Davis, Terell Stafford, Wycliffe Gordon, Josep M. Farràs, Scott Robinson, Josep Traver, Matthew Simon, Llibert Fortuny, Carles Benavent and Jordi Bonell, and she has participated in various projects with Andrea Motis & Joan Chamorro Group and the Sant Andreu Jazz Band. She has also taken part in jazz festivals in Barcelona, Terrassa, Porta Ferrada, Menorca, Roses, Vic and Xàbia (València) among others.

After releasing her first album That Darkness as a quintet, Eva Fernández is now playing in a more stripped down format. A trio with Josep Munar and Enric Fuster, who play fresh, contemporary, elegant jazz.

Saturday night will be an intimate night at PizzaExpress Jazz Club. Giulia Valle will bring her trio for an evening of original compositions. The solid interaction between Giulia and her fantastic band with Marco Mezquida (piano) and David Xirgu (drums) won't leave you indifferent. Don't wait any longer and book your tickets to get the best sit in the house!

A bit more about Giulia Valle:

Giulia Valle is a bandleader, composer, arranger and double bass player. A mind-blowing musical prodigy. Very few artists have the ability and the power to leave such a personal imprint in each and every one of their projects as Giulia does, at times wild, at times caressing, always free, intense, classy, challenging and unpredictable.

While established in Barcelona, Giulia has developed an international career that led her to the main jazz stages in the world, including the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Blue Note in New York, San Francisco Jazz, Jamboree or Bimhuis, to name just a few, and her work has consistently received praise from specialized press around the globe.

After the recognition of Giulia Valle Group, the bass player returns with another project in smaller format. Giulia Valle Trio is composed of three musicians of absolute reference in this country: Marco Mezquida, Giulia Valle and David Xirgu. In 2017 a new album recorded in San Francisco Jazz Festival 2015 has been published, Live in San Francisco. Discmedi, in which this trio represents the total freedom of expression and interaction between its members. Its three members know each other perfectly. Seeing them and listening to them is a journey for all the senses, especially considering that the repertoire is based on the intense and surprising music of Giulia Valle.

What a great way to close the 1st Edition of the London Catalan Festival with, not one but, two shows with Andrea Motis and Joan Chamorro Quintet! Returning to the club following two previous visits (both of which sold out quickly) trumpeter, vocalist and composer Andrea Motis will be performing music from her latest album ‘Emotional Dance’.

You still don't know Andrea Motis? Keep reading

After recording six acclaimed albums with bassist Joan Chamorro, Barcelona-based trumpeter, singer and composer Andrea Motis makes her solo debut on Impulse! Records with 'Emotional Dance'. The astonishing accord that she’s cultivated with Chamorro during the past seven years is firmly intact on 'Emotional Dance'. The sterling performances features him as well as pianist Ignasi Terraza, drummer Esteve Pi, guitarist Josep Traver as the core ensemble. Like with Chamorro, Motis has recorded and toured consistently with these musicians.

Chamorro coproduced Emotional Dance with Brian Bacchus and Jay Newland. Through Bacchus and Universal Records’ A&R director Jean-Philippe Allard’s sage suggestion, Motis augmented the personnel with a handful of U.S.-based musicians – vibraphonist Warren Wolf, accordionist Gil Goldstein, baritone saxophonist Scott Robinson, percussionist Café Da Silva. Three tunes also features the famed American tenor saxophonist Joel Frahm, who’d worked with Motis and Chamorro before. “We invited [Joel] to play with us in Barcelona in 2016. He was so amazing that we knew we wanted him for this album,” Motis enthuses.

Even though, Motis is only 21-years-old, she displays a mature musicality beyond her years. That’s because she began playing the trumpet at age seven; three years later she began studying jazz at the Municipal School of Music of Sant Andreu under Chamorro, who soon after recruited her for his band while she was still a teenager. While at the school, she was also a member of the Sant Andreu Jazz Band for nine years with which she recorded eight discs and played with such acclaimed musicians as trombonist Wycliffe Gordon, saxophonist Jesse Davis, clarinetist Bobby Gordon, and saxophonist Dick Oatts, among others. In addition to trumpet, Motis plays alto saxophone. But it was with Chamorro’s band that she began singing. “The trumpet will always be my first instrument,” Motis says when asked if she likes being a singer or an instrumentalist the most. “Playing the trumpet is like mediating; it’s such a part of my life. But I never want to choose just one side of my artistic sides because I love doing them all.”
