
The American publishing house Swan Isle Press has published the English translation of Jaume Cabré’s novel Viatge d’hivern (Winter Journey), the first of the author’s work available in English. On the occasion of the novel’s publication, which has received the support of the IRL, the author is carrying out a promotional tour, taking him to Chicago on 17th February and New York on 23rd February.
Before the promotion of his book, Cabré will take part in a reading and talk about Les veus del Pamano (Voices from the Pamano), the novel that has consolidated his international reputation. The event will take place on 16th February at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.
The Instituto Cervantes will be the scene of the Chicago presentation, entitled “Contemporary Catalan Literature: Jaume Cabré’s Winter Journey”, on 17th February at 6 p.m. The writer will present his work and read extracts from the novel, taking part in a discussion on contemporary Catalan literature alongside the translator of Winter Journey, Patricia Lunn, Emeritus Professor at the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Michigan State University. The discussion will be chaired by Mario Santana, Associate Professor of Spanish Literature, and the Center for Latin American Studies.
On 22nd February, Cabré will give a reading from Winter Journey at the King Juan Carlos I Center at New York University, and the following day will sign copies of his novel at the Idlewild Books bookshop.
The Institut Ramon Llull is carrying out its role of supporting translation with the aim of promoting Catalan literature throughout the world and giving incentives to editors and programmers of literary activities for publishing and publicizing contemporary Catalan literature. Viatge d’hivern has received one of the translation grants from the IRL.
