Sílvia Pérez Cruz presents her latest album, Vestida de nit, at the Les Suds festival in Arles

Music.  ARLES, 13/07/2017

The latest album by Sílvia Pérez Cruz is a tribute to her father, Castor Pérez, who wrote the title song. On 13th July the singer presents it at Les Suds à Arles, France, where the audience will be able to hear a new collection of versions, which she sings accompanied by a string quartet.

Flamenco, Brazilian song, Portuguese fado and rock are some of the sources of inspiration of Sílvia Pérez Cruz, a singer difficult to pigeonhole in just one musical genre. An example of this eclecticism is her latest album, which includes Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, Lambada (Chorando se foi), and Gallo negro, gallo rojo, by Chicho Sánchez Ferlosio. This new collection is entitled Vestida de nit, the title of a havanera composed by her father, Castor Pérez.

This summer, Les Suds à Arles is being held from 10th to 16th July, seven days and six nights full of music that more than 50,000 people are expected to attend. There will be more than 60 concerts and musical events, in all styles, in the city of Arles. It is a festival tailor-made for Sílvia Pérez Cruz. Beyond the musical genres, she aims to tell the story hidden behind each song. This is the case whether she is singing jazz for a tribute album to Bill Evans, flamenco with Las Migas (the female quartet she sings with), boleros with the Javier Colina Trio, or versions of Caetano Veloso’s fado.

Sílvia Pérez Cruz (Palafrugell, 1983) had already been part of about 30 projects when she released her album '11 de novembre' (2012), her father’s date of birth, who died while she was composing it. The album catapulted her to success with critics and audiences alike, consolidated with 'granada' (2014), released jointly with Raül Fernández Miró. Last year she composed 'Domus' for Eduard Cortés’ musical film 'Cerca de tu casa', in which she took the lead.

On her latest disc, 'Vestida de nit' (2017), she once again sings versions of songs that we have heard before. This time, though, she is accompanied by a string quartet featuring Miquel Àngel Cordero (double bass), Joan Antoni Pich (cello), Elena Rey (violin), Anna Aldomà (viola) and Carlos Montfort (violin).
