The invitation for applications for the Writers Omi at Ledig House writers’ residency is announced

Literature.  New York, 07/06/2017

The Institut Ramon Llull has begun the selection process for writers who wish to take part in the Writers Omi at Ledig House programme in New York, to be held in the autumn. This is the seventh year in which the IRL has collaborated with this programme, and this year the places available for Catalan writers have been increased to two. The submission period is open until 26th June and the two Catalan writers chosen will have the chance to take part in a meeting point with professionals from all over the world. This process is carried out jointly with the Han Nefkens Foundation.

Since the Writers Omi at Ledig House programme was created 25 years ago, more than 100 authors from 50 different countries have taken advantage of it. Ledig House, which offers accommodation, workspace and upkeep, is in the village of Omi, on the banks of the River Hudson, two and a half hours from New York. The purpose of the invitation has remained the same over the years: to publicize the work of the writers invited and to promote international, cultural and creative exchange among the participants.

In collaboration with the IRL, during the autumn of 2017 the programme will play host to two Catalan writers, who will not be able to attend at the same time. A maximum of ten writers from around the world will be in the residency, where individual and group activities will be organized and the publication of the participants’ work will be encouraged.

In order to be accepted on the programme applicants must have had at least one original work of literature published in Catalan (with exclusive authorship), whether fiction, poetry or drama. Among the Catalan writers chosen for previous editions are Gemma Gorga, Francesc Serés, Sebastià Alzamora and Marina Espasa.

The deadline for submitting applications is 26th June and the names of the two writers chosen for the residency will be announced on 15th July
