Catalonia takes part in the Rencontres chorégraphiques internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis

Performing.  Paris, 10/06/2017

The dancers and choreographers Pere Faura and Albert Quesada present their shows in this year’s edition of the French dance festival, which focuses on contemporary choreographic forms. Faura performs Sweet Tyranny, while Quesada does so with It’s Time, in collaboration with composer Octavi Rumbau.

Created in 1969, Rencontres chorégraphiques internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis has pioneered the presentation of shows with a powerful poetic gaze, constantly questioning our world. This year’s edition has 29 choreographers, each of whom will present their work from 12th May to 17th June. Using the code “Llull”, those interested can purchase tickets at a reduced price (€10).

The Catalan choreographer and dancer Pere Faura (Barcelona, 1980) has worked regularly in many areas of standard pop culture, and he believes that the separation between the different art forms is absurd. He always bears in mind the idea of the spectacle, adding a touch of humour.

In 'Sweet Tyranny' – part of a trilogy entitled Sweet Suite – he launches into an analogy between dance choreography seen as ecstasy and dance seen as a job and a profession. With disco music from the 1970s and 1980s, by the likes of Patrick Swayze and John Travolta, the artist subjects himself to the most conventional Hollywood stereotypes to copy, remix and transform.

Saturday, 10th June, at 7 p.m.

Sunday, 11th June, at 5:30 p.m.

L’Embarcadère, Aubervilliers (5, rue Édouard Poisson – 93300 Aubervilliers)

The second Catalan performance is by Albert Quesada (1982), dancing with Federica Porello and Zoltán Vakulya, in collaboration with composer Octavi Rumbau. Quesada, a choreographer and dancer, trained and has worked in Brussels many times. He is interested in the structures and musical compositions brought to dance, and in the dynamics of group movement.

In 'It’s time', the three dancers and four musicians demonstrate their interest in how spectators perceive time when they see a play. In order to do it, they create the sensation that the clock has stopped and they cyclically play with repetition. The artists also introduce ‘spatial maps’, combining different speeds in different areas of the high plateau. The result: a room in which movement and live music overlap, where each member follows their path with points of intersection, superimposing rhythms and textures to stimulate the imagination.
