'This multi-disciplinary, multi-institution Open World Research Initiative project explores how the insights gained from stepping outside a single language, culture and mode of thought are vital to individuals and societies. Across six interlocking strands we consider multilingualism from a number of angles: literary and cultural studies, the history of ideas, sociolinguistics, applied linguistics, education and cognitive sciences. We also have a number of non-HE partners ranging from major charities to grassroots bodies and more information about these and other aspects of the overall research aims can be found at www.meits.org'
