Lluís Llach presents Les dones de la Principal at the Lit.Cologne Festival

Literature.  Cologne, 11/03/2017

The singer turned novelist Lluís Llach (Girona, 1948) is to present the German translation of Les dones de la Principal (The Women of la Principal) at the Lit.Cologne Festival, in Cologne, one of the most important literary festivals in Europe. Llach will be taking part in an event along with the German actress Iris Berben and the writer and expert on Catalonia Michael Ebmeyer, organized for 11th March on the MS RheinEnergie/Literaturschaff in Cologne.

Les dones de la Principal is the first novel by Lluís Llach to be translated into German. It was published in March 2016 by Suhrkamp Verlag, with a translation by Petra Zickmann. In Catalonia in 2014 it saw Lluís Llach back in bookshops after the success of his literary debut, Memòria d’uns ulls pintats (Memoir of Painted Eyes). The novel is a look at winemaking in Catalonia from the late 19th to the 21st century told through the story of three generations of women – grandmother, mother and daughter – who run La Principal, the most notable mansion in a small village in the district of L’Abadia. The family’s good work making the vines prosper will be marred by the mysterious murder of the estate foreman, just before the start of the Civil War, a crime that a police inspector decides to solve.

The Lit.Cologne festival is held from 7th to 18th March and has invited internationally renowned writers such as Paul Auster, T.C. Boyle, Jonathan Sagran Foer and Ian McEwan.
