Xavier Puigmartí exhibits the series “Les souvenirs ne sont pas à vendre” at the Mashrabia Gallery in Cairo

Arts.  Cairo, 16/02/2017

Xavier Puigmartí (Barcelona, 1952) makes the paintings of “Les souvenirs ne sont pas à vendre” (Souvenirs are not for Sale) come to life in time and crowds: hundreds of figures, arranged in horizontal registers, as in the pharaonic paintings, give the feeling of timelessness. The series can be seen at the Mashrabia Gallery in Cairo, Egypt, from 19th February to 16th March, in a new solo exhibition by Puigmartí.

The Mashrabia Gallery in Cairo presents the exhibition “Les souvenirs ne sont pas à vendre”, a series begun by Xavier Puigmartí in 2015. A narrative is established at different moments in time, in which each figure holds an icon, which is a souvenir, and the souvenirs are pieces of life that circulate, that come and go in time.

Xavier Puigmartí (Barcelona, 1952) is a painter, video creator and photographer. He has lived in Barcelona and Egypt for more than 25 years, and he exhibited for the first time at the Mashrabia Gallery in 1997. His work straddles the boundary between literature, animated films and painting.
