Madrid plays host to the 3rd teacher-training symposium ‘Teaching Catalan in Spain and Portugal: Ideas and Experiences’

Language.  Madrid, 28/10/2016

The Catalan government’s delegation in Madrid and the Institut Ramon Llull are organizing the 3rd edition of the teacher-training symposium “Teaching Catalan in Spain and Portugal: Ideas and Experiences”, to be held at the Blanquerna bookshop-arts centre in Madrid on 28th October. The course proposes a forum for meeting and exchanging experiences for teachers in the Iberian Peninsula with the aim of improving the teaching of Catalan abroad.

The symposium “Teaching Catalan in Spain and Portugal: Ideas and Experiences” has reached its 3rd edition, with the aim of being a place for professional teachers of Catalan to meet, exchange experiences and share ideas for use in the classroom.

The training course will be held in the Blanquerna bookshop-arts centre, the cultural headquarters of the government’s delegation in Madrid, and is divided into two parts: the first, with practical workshops on teaching the language, and the second, for teachers who teach Catalan abroad to talk about their experiences.

The symposium is at the same time a reflection and a response to the interest that Catalan generates beyond its sphere of influence. It is part of the Institut Ramon Llull’s continuous training programme for teachers from outside Catalan-speaking areas in collaboration with foreign universities and other institutions.

Seventeen teachers from all over Spain will be in attendance (including some from the Complutense University of Madrid, the University of Granada and the University of Santiago de Compostela), from Portugal (the University of Lisbon), and also from the Catalan Classrooms of the Generalitat’s Delegation in Madrid and staff from the Institut Ramon Llull.
