Language.  Oxford, 29/09/2016

The University of Oxford presents The XVII Forum for Iberian Studies, entitled 'The Crisis in the Iberian Peninsula' on 29 and 30 September. This conference takes as its focal point the financial crisis that began in 2007–2008 and argues that it has had an undeniable impact on society in the Iberian Peninsula. Speakers will discuss the repercussions of the crisis on contemporary cultural production, particularly in literature and the arts.

Around 70 participants are expected, including the following keynote speakers: Josep Ramoneda (journalist, writer, and lecturer in Philosophy), Albert Monteys (comic writer and illustrator, former director of the satirical magazine El Jueves), Helena Miguélez-Carballeira (Senior Lecturer in Spanish Studies at Bangor University), Joseba Gabilondo (Associate Professor in Spanish and Peninsular Studies at Michigan State University), Alison Ribeiro de Menezes (Professor of Hispanic Studies at University of Warwick) and Phillip Rothwell (King John II Professor of Portuguese at the University of Oxford).

The conference dinner will be held at Exeter College, which will also host the concert The Customs of Spain: a multilingual story across cultures, with Pablo González and Jordi Vázquez (voices) and Tamara Lorenzo-Gabeiras (piano).

The Forum for Iberian Studies is supported by the Institut Ramon Llull.
