Conference 'Acting Funny on the Catalan Stage: El teatre còmic en català (1900-2016)' at QMUL

Culture.  London, 28/06/2016

Comic theatre is performed everywhere in Catalan-speaking regions. Indeed, it is the basis of modern Catalan drama. Is it thus possible to talk of a tradition of specifically Catalan humour on stage? Apart from a few famous touring names – such as Els Joglars – who have been the unrecognized actors and authors working to entertain? Is the laughter provoked escapist or critical? And can comedy be translated? An international group of scholars and practitioners will come to Queen Mary University of London to discuss these issues on 28 and 29 June. Free Registration.
