Homage to Catalonia - Tribute to Enric Granados at Trinity Laban

Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Drama presents 'Homage to Catalonia' in collaboration with Instituto Cervantes and the Institut Ramon Llull on 27 and 28 June. Two days of music and events around the figure of Enric Granados to commemorate the Centenary of the death of this magnificent composer with the participation of Professor Walter Aaron Clark, Granados's biographer, and pianist Marta Zabaleta, Director of the Academia Marshall in Barcelona and direct successor of Granados and Alicia de Larrocha.The programme also showcases music by Isaac Albéniz and Frederic Mompou among other contemporary Catalan composers. Admission free.

A rare performance of Granados's greatest piano music given by Marta Zabaleta , Granados’s successor as Director of the Academia Marshall in Barcelona, and a leading interpreter of his music. 

Songs and Dances: The music of Federico Mompou
Featuring Variations on a Theme of Chopin, Landscapes and Songs and Dances 1, 2, 3, 6, 8 and 10 students and Elena Riu and Penelope Roskell.

A pre-concert talk by Granados’ biographer as he explores the many myths surrounding the composer’s death in the English Channel as he courageously tried to save his drowning wife.

Pianist Elena Riu leads a celebration of Granados’ exquisite, colourful and evocative music a hundred years after his death, including The Maiden and the Nightingale, Eight Poetic Waltzes and selections from his Spanish Dances and his song cycle Tonadillas al estilo antiguo
