Institut Ramon LLull

UK Premiere of 'El cafè de la Marina' with Sílvia Munt at the ICA

Cinema.  London, 28/04/2015

Film director and actress Sílvia Munt will join us on Tuesday 28 April for the UK Premiere of her film El Cafè de la Marina (The Marina Cafe), based on the play by Josep Maria de Sagarra set in a fishing village in the early 20th century. Part of Catalan Avant-Garde season, organised by the ICA, the Institut Ramon Llull and Reel Solutions.

The impending wedding of Rosa, the village bar-owner’s youngest daughter, has seemingly enlivened the parish but behind this joy the tragedy of Caterina, her elder sister, has tainted and perturbed the 'well-meaning' villagers.

The film’s director, Sílvia Munt, uses her extensive experience in theatre and film to marry traditional theatrical techniques with modern narrative structures. El Cafè de la Marina brings together an outstanding cast composed of new and established Catalan actors.
