Francesc Serés’ story “The Country” published in The Massachusetts Review

The historic American literary magazine The Massachusetts Review is publishing the English translation of a story by Francesc Serés. “The Country” has been translated by Peter Bush, the renowned translator of many works of Catalan literature into English and winner of the 2014 Ramon Llull Prize for literary translation. The publication of the story in English has the support of the Institut Ramon Llull, which is committed to making Catalan literature known abroad. 




Francesc Serés’ story “The Country” is published in the winter number of The Massachusetts Review, which will be on sale in December. This is a special, Mediterraneans, about the Mediterranean identity and literature. It includes a broad selection of literary voices from Southern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. The literary magazine has been published quarterly since 1959, the year it was founded by a group of lecturers from the Amherst Institute and the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Francesc Serés (Saidí, Aragón, 1972) is a writer and holds a degree in Fine Arts and Anthropology from Barcelona University. He combines his literary career with teaching and research. The collection of stories La força de la gravetat (The Force of Gravity, 2006) established him in the world of Catalan literature when he was awarded the Serra d’Or Prize for narrative and the National Literature Prize. Contes russos (Russian Stories, 2009) also won him recognition in the sector with the Crítica Catalana and Ciutat de Barcelona Prizes. His books have been published in Spanish, Italian and French and some of his stories have been translated into German and Serbian.
