Language.  New York, 24/10/2014

American poetry magazine Circumference has published two poems in English by Catalan writer Melcion Mateu titled “The Ballad of Matt Sweeney” and “Gap”. It is a translation by New York poet Rowan Ricardo Phillips. It is also available online a musical composition by Barcelona bassist Alexis Cuadrado, author of POETICA with the collaboration of Mateu and Phillips. The work was performed in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

POETICA is a composition by the Catalan Alexis Cuadrado, based on the poemes of Melcion Mateu and Rowan Ricardo Phillips. The three New York-based artists performed POETICA in Brooklyn and Manhattan, along with Andy Milne on keyboards, Miles Okazaki on guitar and Tyshawn Sorey on drums. Cuadrado played the bass and Mateu and Phillips provided voice.

Circumference is a print and online journal whose mission is to support poetry in translation, primarily translations of new work from around the globe and also translations of foreign language poets of the past who have fallen under the radar of Ameican readers. Through their website, they facilitate conversations and promote dialogues about international literature and translation in real-time. The print magazine is published annually.
